At the last census, Živogošće had a population of 416 people. Because of its unique natural environment, it is ideal for both family and solo adventure holidays. Živogošće has a reputation as an ideal destination for sailing and fishing. The beauty of the olive and pine forests is along 6 km of the coast. Crystal clear Adriatic Sea, along with the mountain of Biokovo, gives tourists a specific atmosphere and pleasure.

In this blog post, we''ll talk about the various aspects of Živogošće, from its weather and beaches to exciting things to do, making it your perfect summer getaway.

Živogošće history

The small village of Živogošće and its sites have been inhabited since Illyrian and Roman times. On the top of the Suzine hill, you can spot remains of the rustic villas in Mala Duba and Blato. Historians believe villas served as resting places for Roman generals.

One of the historical finds you can spot in Zivogosce is the Licinian’s epigram from the year 474 BC. Composed of 16 Latin hexameters is probably the most beautiful example of classical literature. Famous Latin verses were carved on a cliff by the sea.

While traveling to the verses on the cliff, you wouldn’t spot any signposts. The verses are barely visible and can be found by someone who knows it is there.

But the metal plate with the translation is nailed to the cliff. On the left from the hexameters, visible to everyone.

The Roman quaestor Licinian used verses to celebrate the source of the freshwater.

Živogošće Beaches

Živogošće is renowned for its pristine beaches, each offering a unique experience. Some of the must-visit beaches in the area include:

Porat Beach

At the entrance to the Živogošće, there is the beach Porat. This pebble beach begins in an uninhabited part and stretches to the center of Živogošće.

The beach is easily accessible and located near the road. Parking is directly at the beach.

You have access to beach showers, snack bars, and grocery stores. But you have to climb a bit to get there. We recommend it for families with children who look for peace.

Blato Beach

A 550-meter-long pebble beach equipped with a beach shower, changing cabins, bars, and restaurants.

You can rent a Paddle boat and cruise with your family or friends. If you’re coming with a vehicle then you will have to find a parking spot. The parking fee in the high season is around 5 EUR/day, while during the low season free of charge.

Mala Duba Beach

Wild and natural, surrounded by drylands, cypress, and pine plantations. The pebble belt plunges into the clear sea, and the warm shallows invite relaxation in the blue embrace of the Adriatic.

Parking spots could be an issue here. Space is limited and private.

There is also a barbecue restaurant near the beach in Mala Duba, so you can spend the whole day here without preparing anything special and bringing a lot of luggage to the beach.

Velika Duba Beach

The famous beach of Velika Duba is divided by a pedestrian path about 700 meters long, which begins in the Zivogosšće Blato.

Velika Duba can be reached from the direction of Živogošće Mala Duba. Which is about 500 meters to the west, or from the main road, which takes about 100 meters to reach.

It is possible to park for free during the entire season at two smaller extensions along the main road.

Private parking is located near the beach and is a standard price.

Velika Duba can be FKK-friendly, but it depends on the current bathers. Usually, this is the case in the off-season. A beach has a tiny natural shade, so an umbrella is necessary.

Whether you're looking for relaxation or adventure, Živogošće's beaches have something to offer everyone.
